Setting

Paraguayan Chaco

The Paraguayan Chaco covers over 50% of the country but less than 5% of the population. It is a semi-arid region home to forests and various Indigenous communities, including the Ayoreo.

Story

This is a story about resistance and community.

In 1956, an event occurred that changed the world of the Ayoreo forever: when he was just an Ayoreo child, José Iquebi was kidnapped by ranchers. Taken from his family and his home, young José Iquebi was bound, shipped far away to Asunción, and placed in a cage for onlookers to view. José Iquebi recounts how he returned to his family and how he has devoted his years to defending his people and the Ayoreo culture.
